about
This is our love letter to the patriarchy. One must view ‘Well, Actually’ as a friendly yet firm reminder of what unsolicited advice not to give to a band that’s fresh off the stage, often fuelled by mansplaining or perpetuated by heteronormative norms. We are perfectly capable of asking for it ourselves when in need.
lyrics
Well, actually
Oh my god, you're in that band, that's so cool
Would you mind if I gave you a little bit of advice
about everything?
Well, actually
Your guitarist is working way too hard, you need a second one
Your bass player's alright, but your drummer kind of sounds off sometimes
Or did I hear that wrong?
Well, actually
You know, I feel like I have to keep looking at you and I don't know why
It's fascinating
Have you ever heard of Sonic Youth?
Or Kim Gordon?
It's like you're the same person
Well, actually
You'd be way prettier if you smiled more
Just a bit more pleasant for me to look at
Well, actually
No, I don't make music myself I'll just take up all this space because I can
'cause I'm a man
Would you let me play devil's advocate for just one minute
I'm not entitled
I have rights
You know I love women just as much as the next guy
Please don't reduce me to my gender
It's not right

Music by Mitchell Quitz, Emre Karayalçin, Kat Kalkman, and Lot van Teylingen. Lyrics by Lot van Teylingen. Recorded, produced and mixed by Daan Duurland. Mastered by Tammo Kersbergen. Artwork by Lot van Teylingen. Released via AT EASE.
The great underlying instrumentation paired with Florence's droll stream of consciousness lyrics make this album stand out. It feels so personal and confessional. Favorite tracks are Strong Feelings and Leafy. I've heard Scratchard Lanyard on alt radio and love that one as well. tofupotpie
I was one of the few who couldn't quite embrace "New Long Leg", so when they released the follow-up "Stumpwork", it was much easier to embrace. More haunting, adventurous and brooding than its' predecessor. Matthew Flores
Tightly wound post-punk with splashes of new wave; heavy on twangy riffs, phased-out melodies, and understated vocals. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 2, 2023
